Johann Michael BRÄÜNER

Johann Michael5 BRÄÜNER (Johann Philipp Jacob4 PRÄÜNER, Leonhard3 BREÜNER, Leonhardüs2 PRAÜNER, Leonhard1 BREÜNER) was born to Johann Philipp Jacob PRÄÜNER and Maria Barbara LUTTENBERGER on 6 February 1716 as calculated from his death record,  in Wüstenaü, Crailsheim, Württemberg, Germany.[1]  The first record in which he appears, as Johann Michael, son of Joh. Philipp BRÄÜNER, he was baptized at Mariakapple, Crailsheim, on 6 February 1716.[2] 

Different records[3] list Johann Michael as , “ . . . Hochfürste Brandenbürge.Ünterthan ünd Meister Schmidt Zü Wüstenaü”.  A literal translation is “. . . High Prince (or Kingdom) of Brandenburg, Lower subject and Master Smith at Wüstenaü”. In reviewing other records of males in that period, few have this entry, so I assume that he may have been in the military.  Historically, there was a series of Margraves of Brandenberg-Ansbach that ruled the area under the House of Hohenzollern, from 1723 through 1791.  Margraves were the military governors of German border provinces and members of the German nobility corresponding to the level of an English Duke.  Karl Wilhelm Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach was born in Ansbach (about 20 miles, 33 km, north/east of Wüstenaü)  in 1712, the son of Friedrich Wilhelm I., King of Prussia (from 1713 to 1740), and was Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach from 1727 until his death in 1757.  His son, Christian Friedrich Carl Alexander was born in Ansbach in 1736 and was Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach from 1757 until 1791 when he abdicated his rule to the King of Prussia.[4]   There were several periods of war that Johann Michael may have been involved:  the  War of Austrian Succession (1740-48), known in America as King George’s War, where France, Spain, Prussia, and other nations fought against Austria and Great Britain; and the Seven Years War (Siebenjähriger Krieg) (1756-63) where Great Britain and Prussia fought against Austria, France, Russia, Saxony, Sweden, Spain and most of the imperial electors.  Prussian King Frederick the Great expanded Prussia and became a major European power.

Johann Michael PREÜNER married Anna Katharina LUTTENBERGER on 8 July 1738 in Wüstenaü.[5]  Johann Michael PRAEÜNER died on 3 April 1792 in Wüstenaü, at age 76.[6]  

As Anna Catharina LUTTENBERGER, she was baptized 26 June 1720 in Mariakappel,[7] the daughter of Johann Georg LUTTENBERGER and Anna Margaretha FICKEN.  Johann Georg was born 13 August 1669 In Mariakappel and married Anna Margaretha on 20 April 1703.  He died 9 November 1739.    Anna Margaretha was born on 2 January 1685 and died on 17 April 1724.[8] 

Anna Katharina died on 21 December 1785 in Wüstenaü, at the age of 65 years, 5 months, 3 weeks and 3 days.[9]   

One can guess as to the relationship between  Johann Michael’s mother, Maria Barbara LUTTENBERGER and his wife, Anna Katharina LUTTENBERGER.  Maria Barbara, his mother, was born in 1679 to Johann Georg LUTTENBERGER, “Streifer” (Watchman) and his wife, Eve,  at Mariakappe.[10]  Anna Katharina, his wife, was born in 1720 to Johann Georg  LUDENBERGER, “Streifer” and his wife, Anna Margaretha, at Mariakappel.[11]  I speculate that Anna Katharina was the niece of Maria Barbara, Anna Katharina’s father, Johann Georg, being the brother of Maria Barbara.  If  that is the case, Johann Michael and Anna Katharina would be first cousins. 

Children of Johann Michael5 BRÄÜNER and Anna Katharina LUTTENBERGER were:

i.  Johann Andreas6 PRÄÜNER, son of Johann Michael, was born 1 January 1739.[12]  He married Anna Sabina HOFFMANN, daughter of Michael HOFFMANN, on 1 January 1769.[13]

ii. Rosina Elizabeth PRAÜNER, daughter of Johann Michael was baptized 1 January 1742.[14] 

 iii. Rosina Barbara PRAEÜNER, daughter of Johann Michael, was baptized 7 March 1744.[15]  She married Johann Michael KNOLL on 2 November 1784 in Wüstenaü.[16]

iv. Anna Catharina PRAÜNER, daughter of Johann Michael, was baptized on 6 February 1746.[17]  As PRÄEUNER, she married Matthias ALBRECHT on 25 June 1784 in Wüstenaü.[18]

v. Johann Friedrich PRÄUNER, son of Johann Michael and Anna Catharina, was baptized on 5 April 1748 in Wüstenaü.[19]  He married Maria Margaretha Dorothea (--?--), widow of Christoph Freÿtag of Krailsheim, in December 1784.  Johann Frederich was a Master Shoemaker in Krailsheim.[20]

+ vi. Johann Philipp6 PRÄUNER, born 3 June 1751 in Wüstenaü; married, 1st, Anna Maria Merklein; married, 2nd,  Magdalene Barbara MITTELMAYER

vii Johann Michael PRAEÜNER, son of Johann Michael and Anna Katharina LUTTENBERGER, was born on 28 January 1754 in Wüstenaü.  He died there on  1 January 1819, at 64 years, 11 months, 3 days.  He was buried at Mariakapell on 3 January.[21]

viii. Johann Georg PRAEÜNER, son of Johann Michael and Anna Katharina LUTTENBERGER, was born on 14 August 1756 in Wüstenaü.  He married Anna (--?--).  He died on 18 June 1821 in Wüstenaü at age 64, and was buried on June 21.[22]

ix. Johann Adam PRAÜNER, son of Johann Michael and Anna Catharina, was born on 11 August 1759 in Wüstenaü.  He probably died young.[23]

x. Anna Maria PRÄUNER was baptized on 20 September 1762 in Wüstenaü.[24]
