Leonhard1 BREÜNER,
who
died on 22 October 1634 at Binselberg,
Crailsheim, Württemberg, Germany[1]
is listed as
Leonhard BREÜNER
of
Binselberg at that time was in the Duchy of Württemberg, of
the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (the First
German Reich) controlled by the Hapsburg Dynasty (1273-1806).[3]
The Protestant Reformation of the Catholic Church began
when, in 1517, a Catholic Priest,
Martin Luther,
nailed 95 Theses, or
arguments, against the corruption of the Catholic Church, on the door of
Catholic Cathedral in
Leonhard’s
Family Register does not list a date of birth.
It gives his first wife as
Ottilia (-?-), born
in 1559.
It is assumed that he was not younger than she and it is
doubtful that he was much older as the Register shows that he fathered children
for a period of about 40 years, the last in 1628.
If we place his year of birth the same as
Otillia’s,
1559, he would have fathered children in his late 60’s.
If we look for a missing generation, we would look
at son,
Leonhard, born in 1602 (see below).
Although we find no death record for this
Leonhard, it is
assumed that he died young (because of a later son named
Leonhard),
and realistically, he would probably be too young, 15, to be the husband of the
second wife,
Magdalena BAÜMAN
(see below), 14 years his senior.
One child is attributed to
Leonhard
and Ottilia, son,
Leonhard,
born 7 March 1602.
Another eight children are listed with no date of
birth; however the date of marriage is given for them.
If the assumption is made that the average age that
people were married was about 25, then these eight children would be born to
Ottilia.
The
first known marriage of his children is
Barbara,
in 1609, so, assuming she was married at age 25,
Barbara
would have been born, say, 1584 and
Leonhard
and Ottilia
(--?--) married,
say, 1583.
Ottilia
would have been about 24 years of age.[6]
Ottilia,
wife of
Leonhard PREÜNER of
Binzelberg, died 17 February 1613 at the age of 54 at Binzelberg.[7]
Leonhard
PRAÜNER
married, 2nd,
Magdalane BAÜMAN
on 18 February 1617 in Langenbürg, Württemburg, daughter of
Hans
BAÜMAN
of Ruckershagen, Württemburg.
In
the marriage record, there appears to be the word or abbreviation “Ju” following
Leonhard’s
name which may be an abbreviation for Junge, or “younger”, which may indicate
that his father was also named
Leonhard.
Leonhard
was a coach/wheel maker.[8]
The Family Register lists six children with years of birth
between 1617 and 1628.
Other church records have been found to support or
add to the information found in the Family Register and will be listed where
appropriate.
It appears that, in 1632, there was a change of pastor’s,
indicated by the different handwriting, style and change in spelling.
As

of Binzelberg, he
died on 22 October 1634 at Binselberg.[9]

of Binzelberg, she married
Hannß PHILIPP
on 13 April 1613 at Michelbach an der Heide.[12]

Apollonia PRAÜNER
was born, say 1589, assuming age 25 when she married.
She married
Georg HrUKER
of Rückershagen, Württemberg, on 7 March 1614.[13]

Ursüla PRAÜNER
was born, say 1592,
assuming age 25 when she married.
She married
Leonhard RUCKER
of Rückershagen on 25 February 1617 at Bächlingen, Württemberg.[14]

Michael PRAÜNER
was born, say 1594, assuming age 25 when he married.
He married
Margaretha HÜTT
on 4 May 1619 at Oberstetten, Württemburg.[15]
vi.
Görg PRAÜNER
was born, say 1600, assuming age 25 when Marriage Banns were posted in 1625,
with a
Katharina MATHESAN,
however it doesn’t appear that he married her at this time.
A long paragraph follows
the entry which I am unable to translate, which, I speculate, may explain why
they didn’t marry.[16]
Records have been found showing several different
Georg PRAÜNERs
with children.

was born 7 March 1602.[17]
A baptism record is found where the format appears to list
the father, then the baptized child, which would read
Dam BREÜNER
of
Binzelberg, son
baptized
Leonhard,[18]
which corresponds with the date of birth listed for
Leonhard in the
Family Register.
He must have died as another son of the same name
was born later, however, no death record was located.

Eva SCHMID,

Binzelberg.[25]

He was baptized on 15 August 1626 at Binselberg.[26]
As the son of
Leonhard PREÜNER
of Binzelberg, he died on 29 August 1626 at Binselberg at 14 days of age.[27]

Eva PRAÜNER
was baptized on 7 January 1628 at Binzelberg.[28]
There is a baptism record found for a
Margareta,
daughter of
Leonh. Breüner, baptized on 19 January 1607,
who’s Godmother was a
Christina Bartemb[?].[29]
She is not listed in Leonhard’s Family
Register so it is assumed that she if the daughter of another
Leonhard Breuner,
possibly
Leonhard of Michelbach, listed below
There is a death
record for a
Johann, young son of
Leonhard Johann Praüner
that died on 4 February 1614 at 21 weeks of age at Michelbach.
This would not be the son of our
Leonhard
as the calculated birth date of 10 September 1613 is after the death of
Ottilia
and before the marriage with
Magdalena BAÜMAN.
From what I have learned of the local records at
this time, illegitimate children were given the name of the mother and not the
father so this would not be an illegitimate son of our
Leonhard.
Also, this
Johann died in
Michelbach when records show that
Leonhard lived in
Binzelberg.[30]
There is a death record for a
Michael,
son of
Leonhard Praüner,
born, calculated, 23 July 1625, that died 14 days later, on 6 August 1625 at
Michelbach.[31]
It is assumed that this is another son of
Leonhard Praüner
of Michelbach.
There is no record for a second son,
Michael,
for our Leonhard
PRAÜNER.
It was physically possible for
Magdalana
to have given birth to
Michael, however, they had
no connection to Michelbach at this time, other than local parish church was at
Michelbach.
There was a
Job Praüner, born in 1564, a farmer in
Kupferhoff, who was probably a relative of
Leonhard, but no record has been
found that makes a direct connection.
Kupferhoff is about 2.5 miles (4 km) east
of Binzelberg.
Job’s eldest daughter,
Christina, married a man from
Binzelberg,[32]
and the grandson of
Leonhard moved to Kupferhoff by 1676.[33]

was married, 1st, to
Margaretha (--?--), who died on 06
May 1615, Kupferhof at age 60, giving her a year of birth, calculated, of 1555.[34]
Job,
