Johann Georg8 PRAEUNER (Johann Martin7 PRAEÜNER, Johann Philipp6 PRAÜNER, Johann Michael5 BRÄÜNER, Johann Philipp Jacob4 PRÄÜNER, Leonhard3 BREÜNER, Leonhardüs2 PRAÜNER, Leonhard1 BREÜNER), son of Johann Martin PRAEUNER and Eve Marie BÜHL, was born on 8 September 1844 in Wüstenaü, Württemberg, Germany.  He was baptized at Mariakapell, Württemberg, on 14 September 1844.[1]  He was confirmed at the Envangelische (Lutheran) Church Mariä Kappel on 18 April 1858.[2]

John’s sister, Rosina and her husband, emigrated from Germany and, in 1867, settled west of what is now Battle Creek, Madison County, Nebraska.  Rosina’s husband died in the winter of 1867-68, and, upon his death, Rosina wrote to her family in Germany and urged her brothers to come to Nebraska and take advantage of the available land.[3]  In 1869, John and brother, Georg Carl, immigrated to America and, following Rosina’s instructions, they went by rail to the Union Pacific Rail Station at Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska, and started overland following the landmarks that she told them about.  After about 60 miles, they found her on the highest hill with her dog, watching for them.[4]

John homesteaded on the NE¼ of Section 12 in Schoolcraft Precinct, adjacent to the homestead of his sister, Rosina.[5]

John married Wilhelmine Katharina SCHOTT,[6] calculated, in 1869.[7]  In 1870, John and Katharina PRAUNR [sic] are farming in Deer Creek Precinct, Madison County, Nebraska with their son, John, age 7 months.  Living with them is John’s brother, Charles.[8]  In 1880, John and Katharine PRUNNER [sic] are farming in Schoolcraft Precinct, Madison County with children John, Willie, age 8; and Meana, age 4.[9]  In 1900, John and Katharin PRAUNER are living at Schoolcraft Precinct.   William, is living on the farm next to them.[10]   In 1910, John and Kate PRAUNER have moved to the village of Battle Creek, Madison County.[11]  In 1920, John, a widower, is living with his son, Fred PRAUNER.[12]  John died before 1930.  Wilhelmine Katharina was born in January of 1844 in Germany.[13].

To avoid confusion, John and his family were called PRAUNER while his brother Carl and his family  were called PRAEUNER.
