1854-1881

This page last updated: 31 August 2007

Henry M.3 (WHITE) ROGERS (John2, William1 WHITE) was born to John WHITE and Thankful CLARK, circa 1854, probably at Northville Twp., LaSalle County, Illinois where his parents had moved in 1852.[1]

There are two newspaper articles in a scrapbook kept by Bessie (WHITE) MORROW, daughter of John Wilbur, one, a marriage notice, the other, an obituary, for Henry M. ROGERS.  Above both articles are handwritten notes “Brother of Wilbur WHITE” and along the side of the obituary is a handwritten note “H. ROGERS was H. WHITE, son of John WHITE.  The obituary states “He was the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. ROGERS, who took him an orphan when an infant . . .”  The information in the obituary would put Henry M. (WHITE) ROGERS’ year of birth as 1854.[2]  At the age of three, in 1857, Henry M. WHITE was adopted by the L. D. ROGERS family.  Left unanswered is - WHY?  To add to the intrigue, in 1910, widower Adelbert Z. [sic]. WHITE, after the death of his wife, Carrie, is living in Tampico next to Lauren D. ROGERS[3] who was Henry M. (WHITE) ROGERS adoptive father.  Henry M. lived with his adoptive father for twenty four years, managing the farm.  In 1880, Henry rented one of Lauren’s farms and purchased his milk wagon and business.[4]

On 17 March 1880, Henry married Dell (Della) BARKER at the residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. I. BARKER of Sandwich, DeKalb County, Illinois.[5]  About June of 1881, a child was born to Henry and Della.  On December 7, 1881, Henry died from typhoid fever, a complication of congestion of the lungs from which he had suffered for several years.  He was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich.[6]

Child of Henry M.4 (WHITE) ROGERS and Della BARKER was as follows:
